Sliders Recipe

  • 2 pounds ground beef (I use Kobe in 1 pound packages, but the lower the fat percentage, the drier they will be.)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1Tablespoon of Carolina Steak and Brisket Rub

  • 1 Tablespoon stone ground mustard

  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce

  1. Spray a broiler pan with cooking spray and preheat the oven to 350°

    1. Broiler pans usually come with your stove, but if you don’t have one, here is a link: https://amzn.to/391BvMo

  2. Add ground beef and other ingredients to a bowl. Mix thoroughly by hand.

  3. Scoop with a 3 oz. scoop and flatten out.

  4. Bake at 350° for 15-20 minutes or until it reaches an internal temperature of 155° F.

    1. If you are serving to kids and elderly persons, because of their lowered immune system, it is important to cook to the full 155°F so that you reduce the possibility of food borne illness.

    2. If you would like it cooked medium, cook to 135° but I only cook ground beef to lower than 155° if I have ground it myself.

    3. If you don’t have a meat thermometer… you should. Here is a link: https://amzn.to/2JNtsdF

      1. This thermometer will work for meat, candy, oil, or any other food related purpose. If you don’t like this one, just be sure that your thermometer is NSF approved. This means it is food service grade and will last for a long time.

Now for the blog portion. Notice, once again, I listed the recipe first so as not to drive you insane with tons of pictures before you get to what you actually came here for. These sliders are a regular in my house. Want to make them larger burgers, go for it! Want to make them meatloaf, add some bread or cracker crumbs, and have at it. It's all up to you.

Cooking the sliders on the broiler pan was a development when we were having a halloween party one year and had planned to have a cookout and it ended up raining. Our friend Conner helped me make the burgers and we put them on the broiler pan and they ended up being better than grilled. It was one of those happy accidents where you discover something amazing in what could be a disappointment. One of my favorite phrases to use is, “we learn things.” This can be used in a wide variety of situations. In this case, from a non-ideal situation, we ended up with a more than ideal situation. This is a lesson in life in general. So many have this idea that if things aren’t perfect or the exact way you planned, you toss it out or give up. I don’t really have that inclination and because of that, I end up learning things everyday. Many people say, “I can’t cook.” That isn’t true. Anyone can cook. It’s just a matter of following directions and staying focused. If you struggle with focus, kitchen timers or timers on your phone and thermometers with alarms are hugely helpful. This one connects to bluetooth on your phone and has multiple probes. https://amzn.to/3oj47au It works well because you can place a probe in multiple foods and have an alarm when that food is done. It withstands temperatures of up to 716° F. Generally when anyone says they can’t cook, it has much more to do with staying on task than actual skill. Cooking is something that can be learned by anyone! Start simple and work your way up. And, watch Mixing with Mercs. We can always help!
