Pastry Tip Storage
Have you had tons of issues storing pastry tips in a way that is expandable but also easy to organize? I’ve had this issue for years and my wonderful husband came up with a solution. During Covid we got a bit bored and boredom in our house leads to us buying things to make or do stuff. So far we have a Cricut, a t-shirt press, a whole ton of nerf guns, a custom cup turner, a new oven, and the relevent item to this solution a Prusa 3-D printer.
I have stored my pastry tips in tackle style boxes for years. The typical Wilton Boxes. They worked great for a few years, but no sooner had I found a solution than I bought/needed more tips and I outgrew it. I also don’t do well with hidden storage so I ended up with most of my tips in a pile on the mini drying rack on the window sill over our sink. I also found that the storage with the little pegs works great as long as you are pretty still, but introduce a little movement into the equation and those things go flying and lets just say, as a Dance major, movement often enters into the equation.
So, we went to work designing little boxes that would go in the new cabinets we got to store all my baking business items in. You may notice from the above TikTok that there are no countertops yet. Remodels are FUN! You will see below that these are individual boxes, but they are sold in sets due to the nature of 3-D printing and managing the colors changes on the printer which take a bit of time. Check out the pictures below!
This is what happened with my old storage. Also, how often do we need a toolbox to travel with cake decorating supplies? I use them in my house and have a small travel emergency kit that I take when I deliver multi layer cakes. (I don’t offer delivery on single layer cakes, cupcakes, or cookies.)
This is my drawer currently. I am not quite finished with it as we are printing some storage for pastry bags, Parchment, and couplers. I am so excited to see where this storage goes in the future. I use this label maker below to label the boxes:
