I have always been highly annoyed with blogs that contain a recipe that make you scroll through endless pictures and exposition in order to give me a recipe. So… I won’t do that. The recipe is above, because I know that is what you are here for. So now here is the exposition…
I am always cold. I wear sweatshirts inside in the summer. I will sit in a hot car for a few minutes soaking in the warmth before I turn my air conditioner on. I love Florida! I love roasting in the sun in the summertime. I like roasting in the sun even more in the wintertime, hence why I love Florida. All of that is to say, that I don’t enjoy large amounts of cold things in the winter. Milkshakes, smoothies, and ice cream have a firm limit in the winter. That limit happens when I literally start shaking from shivering, which always happens. The awful part about this is that the only fool proof way that I have found that works for me to lose weight is to have smoothies for lunch. Frozen fruit, protein powder, and almond milk. This does not work in the winter, so I needed a warm option. Then I thought of pureed soup! Hot smoothie! I began to brainstorm the easiest way to make it. I already knew which protein powder to use. Seeking Health’s Optimal Protein Powder. This protein powder has no flavor, no sugar, and I found it when I was looking for soy free protein options. I have always hated the fake flavor of other protein powder and the added sugar was too much. I appreciated that this protein powder mixed well with smoothies and baked goods and didn’t change the flavor of things.
The soup recipe was also one that I have developed over the years. I find Campbell’s soup to be too sweet and not the best compliment for grilled cheese, so I began making my own tomato basil soup using canned tomatoes and adding my own seasoning and a bit of milk or cream. I used this as my base for the protein soup.
To have a side food rant, this soup is NOT tomato bisque. Tomato bisque does NOT exist!!! This is one of my biggest pet peeves in the food world. Bisque is a soup that contains some sort of seafood and it needs to have shells in the soup itself to be bisque. Tomatoes are not seafood and do not have shells therefore… TOMATO BISQUE DOES NOT EXIST!
When I made this soup, I was prepared to have some graininess and mealiness from the protein powder, but that was definitely minimal in this soup. My husband ate it when he came home from work for lunch and it filled him up as well. This soup was a pleasant surprise all around and I highly recommend it.
